Ladies; Woodford cum Membris
Bloxham Ladies completed their fixtures with a visit to Woodford and in a tight game finished up losing 46-47. Anne Kearvell skipped Linda Morse and Sue Miles to a 21-10 win while Tina Dodd Linda Young and Norma Gardner dropped two shots on the last end to draw 17-17. Jocelyne Buller, Diane Billington and Hilary Thomas were always trailing in their game and were defeated 8-20.
Bloxham overcame Brackley 64-59 winning on two rinks and losing on two. Ray Sopp, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge led the way for Bloxham with a 23-11 win, they were well supported by Roy Billingtons rink with a 18-15 win. There were defeats for skips Rob Kearvell, 12-15 and Ray Hopkins, 11-18 .
Bloxham won an exciting game at Byfield 56-53, in a very tight game Bloxham drew on two rinks , won on one and lost on one. Bloxham's rink of Doug Woodward, Sue Miles and Roy Billington s 16-12 win swung the match in Bloxham's favour.
WOMTL; Banbury Chestnuts
Bloxhams visit to Banbury Chestnuts resulted in a 66-53 shot success. Bloxham won on three of the four rinks, successful skips were Dave Morse, 16-8, Alan Miles, 16-12, and Jim Lucas , 16-9, Ray Hopkins lost 18-24.
Bloxham were defeated 59-77 on their visit to FISC at Stratford. Bloxham won on two rinks, Diane Billington, Des Jones and Rob Kearvell winning comfortably 18-10 well supported by Chris Field, Hilary Thomas and Alan Miles whose three on the last end gave them a 20-19 win. There were defeats for skips Norman Hambidge, 13-23 and Roy Billington 8-15.
Bloxham were defeated 49-59 in their friendly at Banbury Borough, in a low scoring match only the rink of Ray Sopp, Brian Smith Rob Kearvell and Ron Higgins had any success managing a 14-14 draw. There were defeats for Bloxham skips Alan Miles 13-15, Dave Morse 9-11 and Jim Lucas 13-19.
WOMTL; Witney Town Blues
Bloxham were defeated 58-65 in their West Oxford League Game at Witney Town. Bloxham managed two winning rinks, Diane Billington, Chris Field and Ray Hopkins winning 24-9 and Tina Dodd, Des Jones and Roy Billington winning 15-12.
Bloxhams fixture at Banbury Central resulted in a 54-49 shot win. Linda Young, Chris Field, Norman Hambidge and Jim Lucas recorded a 18-8 win supported by Liam Ryan, Rob Kearvell, Sue Miles and Roy Billington with a 17-14 success. Ray Hopkins rink of Ray Sopp, Brian Smith and Hilary Thomas managed an 11-11 draw.
WOMTL; Chipping Norton
Bloxham hosted Chipping Norton in their West Oxford League fixture and ran out convincing winners by 68-40 shots, winning on three of the four rinks, Diane Billington, Sue Miles and Tony Gardner had a 14-6 success, while Alan Miles skipped Jane Hall and Doug Woodward to a 24-8 win. Chris Hall, Anne Kearvell and Roy Billington were Bloxhams other successful triple, winning 14-9. There was a narrow defeat for Rob Kearvell, Norma Gardner and John Stephens 16-17.
Woodford cum Membris
Bloxhams friendly fixture with Woodford resulted in a draw 62-62, despite Bloxham winning on three of the four triples. Alan Miles skipped Jane Hall and Doug Woodward to a 19-12 win well supported by Chris Field, Roland Dodd and Norma Gardner with a 17-13 win. Tony Gardners trio of Liam Ryan and Sue Miles managed a 12-11 success.
Bloxham overwhelmed Oxford Masonic recording a100-43 win. Bloxhams winning skips were Norman Hambidge 27-9, Alan Miles 32-6 and John Stephens 25-6
Bloxham hung on to their second place in the league despite a 63-72 defeat to high flyers Thame. Tony Gardners rink of Brian Smith, Des Jones and Roy Billington completed a 17-14 win over Thames top rink while Jim Lucas skipped his side of Doug Woodward, John Nolan and Norman Hambidge to a 24-9 win. There were heavy defeats for Bloxhams Chris Field, Roland Dodd, John Stephens and Ron Higgins 14-23 and Chris Hall, Ray Sopp, Bob Ottway and Rob Kearvell 8-26.
Bloxham continued their good form in the Oxford League defeating Shiplake 85-64 to maintain their second position. Dave Morse with Chris Field, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge set Bloxham up with a 32-14 win, well supported by Chris Hall, Bob Ottway, John Stephens and Alan Miles with a 23-11 success. Tony Gardners rink of Brian Smith, John Nolan and Roy Billington lost 17-18 after leading throughout the match, but Des Jones, Ray Sopp, Ron Higgins and Ray Hopkins were well beaten 13-21.
City & County
Bloxham travelled to Oxford for their friendly with Oxford City and County and recorded an unexpected victory 85-46. Ray Sopp, Chris Field, John Stephens and Roy Billington were impressive 31-9 winners, while Roland Dodd, Rob Kearvell Hilary Thomas and Alan Miles supported with a 24-10 win. Diane Billington, Doug Woodward, Sue Miles and Ray Hopkins were Bloxham's other successful rink with a 15-9 win. There was a narrow defeat for Ros Sopp, Jim Thorne, Anne Kearvell and Norman Hambidge 15-18.
Bloxham moved into second place in the Oxford League with an impressive 74-54 win over Chadlington. Jim Lucas with Des Jones, John Nolan and Ron Higgins ran out 28-11 winners well supported by Brian Smith, Roy Billington, Ray Hopkins and Skip Tony Gardner with a 21-12 success. Chris Hall, Rob Kearvell, Simon Hambidge and Alan Miles scored 2 on the last end to win a tight game 16-15. There was defeat for Doug Woodward, John Stephens, Norman Hambidge and Dave Morse 9-16.
WOMTL, Middle Barton
Bloxham were also defeated at Middle Barton 45-77 where only John Stephens trio of Chris Field and Anne Kearvell showed any form recording a 23-13 win.
Although current holders of the West Oxford League title Bloxhams chances of retaining the title were reduced by two defeats in a week. In a close game with Burford they lost 61-68 with only Diane Billington, Chris Hall and Alan Miles recording a 18-17 win for Bloxham.
Bloxhams visit to leaders Bicester resulted in a 67-51 win for the home side in the Oxford League. Bloxham managed only one winning rink with Dave Morse skipping Bob Ottway, John Stephens and Norman Hambidge to a 17-10 win. Alan Miles rink of Des Jones, Chris Field and Roy Billington led for the entire game but were caught on the last end for Bicester to rescue a point in a 17-17 draw. There were defeats for Brian Smith, John Nolan, Ray Hopkins and Tony Gardner 7-23 and Chris Hall, Doug Woodward, Rob Kearvell and Ron Higgins 10-17.
Friends of Bowls England
Bloxham welcomed Friends Of Bowls England for the first time to Bloxham and a tight game resulted in a 63-71 win for the visitors. Bloxham had one winning rink Bob Ottway, Linda Young, Rob Kearvell and Dave Morse gaining a 17-14 win. There were narrow efeats for Tina Dodd, Doug Woodward, Chris Hall and Alan Miles 17-29, and Chris Field, Liam Ryan, Hilary Thomas and Roy Billington also 17-20. Ray Sopp, Roland Dodd, Pat Ostler and John Stephens were also defeated 12-17.
Bloxham returned to winning ways in the Oxford League with a 76-48 success at Hanborough. Bloxham won on three rinks with Dave Morse leading the way with a 25-4 win, he was well supported by Chris Hall, Jim Thorne, Rob Kearvell and Ron Higgins with a 19-13 win. Jim Lucas skipped Des Jones, John Nolan and Alan Miles to a 17-13win. Brian Smith, Roy Billington, Ray Hopkins and Tony ardner were Bloxhams only losers, going down 15-18.
Bloxham recorded a 75-63 win in their local derby with Adderbury. Liam Ryan, Rob Kearvell and Roy Billington were 22-11 winners, with the trio of Bob Ottway, Doug Woodward and John Stephens gaining a 20-12 win. Alan Miles triple of Diane Billington and Brian Smith managed a 18-14 win but there was defeat for Jim Thorne, Chris Hall and Norman Hambidge 15-26.
Bloxham lost a close game 54-58 in the West Oxford League winning on two rinks and losing on two. Diane Billington, John Stephens and Tony Gardner recorded a 14-13 win, supported by Rob Kearvell, Norma Gardner and Ray Hopkins with a 18-17 success, but there were defeats for Anne Kearvell, Norman Hambidge and Alan Miles 12-14 and Roy Billingtons rink of Doug Woodward and Sue Miles 10-14.
League; Banbury Central
Bloxham were defeated 61-78 in their Oxford League fixture with Banbury Central. Despite being well ahead at the halfway stage Bloxham faded in the second half and despite winning on two rinks the overall points gave Central victory.Jim Lucas with Des Jones, John Nolan and Roy Billington recorded a one shot win and Bob Ottway, John Stephens, Norman Hambidge and Dave Morse won 16-5. Tony Gardners rink of Chris Field, Brian Smith and Ray Hopkins let slip a 19-4 lead at halfway to lose 20-23 and Alan Miles rink of Ray Sopp, Rob Kearvell and Ron Higgins were well beaten 10-27.
Bloxham were beaten 50-73 in their friendly with Hanborough a Heavy defeat 9-31 sustained by Ros Sopp, Chris Hall and Alan Miles, was offset partly by Liam Ryan, Norma Gardner and Ray Hopkins with a 15-14 win, Ray Sopp, Sue Miles and Roy Billington settled for a 15-15 draw but Tony Gardners triple of Jane Hall and Doug Woodward lost 11-13.
Bloxham Ladies were beaten 26-31 in their friendly with Banbury Chestnuts. Bloxham won on two rinks thanks to Jocelyn Buller, Diane Billington, Linda Young and Norma Gardner 10-9, supported by Myra Peters, Sue Miles and Anne Kearvell 12-4 but defeat for Tina Dodd, Ros Sopp and Hilary Thomas 4-18 swung the game in Chestnuts favour.
Bloxham lost a tight game 56-57at Charlbury in the West Oxford League. Bloxham won on two rinks thanks to Chris Field, Linda Young and Norman Hambidge 14-11, and Jane Hall, Anne Kearvell and Roy Billington 23-14. There were defeats for Tina Dodd, Chris Hall and Robin Kearvell 9-20 and Diane Billington, Doug Woodward and John Stephens 10-12..
Thame's ex BBC weather man Bill Giles rink was the deciding factor in their 64-56 shot win in the Oxford League game at Bloxham, defeating Alan Miles rink of Bob Ottway, Rob Kearvell and Ron Higgins 24-8. There were better performances from Bloxhams other three rinks with Tony Gardners rink of Brian Smith, Roy Billington and Ray Hopkins recording a 22-14 win and Des Jones, John Nolan, Simon Hambidge and Jim Lucas winning 14-13. Dave Morses four of Chris Field, John Stephens and Norman Hambidge suffered a one shot defeat 12-13 after failing to score on the last seven ends.
Despite winning on two rinks Bloxham lost their friendly with Brackley 49-70. There were wins for Chris Field, Sue Miles and Alan Miles 17-16 and Roland Dodd, Anne Kearvell and Dave Morse 11-10.but defeats for Jocelyn Buller,Rob Kearvell and John Stephens 17-18, and a heavy loss for Ray Hopkins trio of Tina Dodd and Doug Woodward 4-25 swung the game in Brackleys favour
Bloxhams losing run in the Oxford League continued with a 42-84 defeat at Shiplake. Tony Gardners rink of Brian Smith, John Nolan and Ron Higgins were again Bloxhams only winning combination with a 15-13 win against Shiplakes Jim Brand. There were defeats for Des Jones, Roland Dodd, Roy Billington and Jim Lucas 11-25, and Chris Field, Jim Thorne, Alan Miles and Ray Hopkins 11-24. Dave Morses rink of Ray Sopp, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge also suffered a heavy 5-22 loss
Bloxham suffered a 45-66 reversal on their visit to Kineton in a friendly fixture with only the trio of Tina Dodd, Doug Woodward and Alan Miles gaining any reward with a 16-16 tie. There were defeats for Roland Dodd, Chris Field and Norman Hambidge 9-10, Ray Sopp, Sue Miles and Chris Hall 13-20 and Ros Sopp, Bob Ottway and John Stephens 7-20.
Bloxham were defeated 80-55 in their Oxford league game at Chadlington with only Tony Gardners rink of Brian Smith, Roy Billington and Ray Hopkins managing a 16-13 win. There were defeats for Ray Sopp, Doug Woodward, Norman Hambidge and Dave Morse, 10-24,John Nolan, John Stephens,Ron Higgins and Jim Lucas 16-24 and Chris Field, Chris Hall, Bob Ottway and Alan Miles 13-19.
WOMTL; Witney Town Aces
Holders Bloxham lost their opening West Oxford League match 54-76 to Witney Aces. Linda Young, Rob Kearvell and Dave Morse were Bloxhams only winning triple 25-16 but there were defeats for Chris Hall, Norma Gardner and Alan Miles 11-15, Jane Hall, Roy Billington and Tony Gardner 14-22 and Anne Kearvell, John Stephens and Ray Hopkins 14-23.
The clash of two unbeaten sides saw Bicester end Bloxhams winning start with a 78-59 win at the ridgeway, and a 4-2 points win. John Price, Bob Ottway, Simon Hambidge and Rob Kearvell had a 16-13 win for Bloxham while Chris Field, Roy Billington, Ray Hopkins and Tony Gardner recorded a tight win. There were defeats for Dave Morse 9-20 and Jim Lucas 14-27. .
Bloxham Ladies suffered a 35-51 defeat at Banbury Borough Anne Kearvell skipped Linda Young and Myra Peters to Bloxhams only winning triple 15-7 but there were defeats for Norma Gardner 8-14 and Hilary Thomas 12-20
Bloxham continued their winning form in the Oxford League with a 80-49 victory against Hanborough winning on all 4 rinks.securing all 6 points on offer. Brian Smith, Roy Billington, Ray Hopkins and Tony Gardner overcame Hanboroughs Geoff Thomson 21-8 with Jim Lucas, Chris Field, Rob Kearvell, and John Stephens chipping in with a 22-11 win. Dave Morse skipped Ray Sopp, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge to a 19-13 success and Alan Miles four including Des Jones, Bob Ottway and Ron Higgins won a tight contest 18-17.
League, Banbury Central
Bloxham made a winning start to their league programme with an impressive 73-54 away success at Banbury Central. securing 5 of the 6 points on offer. Jim Lucas led his rink of Chris Field, Rob Kearvell and John Stephens to a 22-10 win over Centrals Ed Creed. Des Jones, Simon Hambidge Ron Higgins and Alan Miles overcame Tom McKennas rink 21-13 and Dave Morse skipped Chris Hall, Doug Woodward, and Norman Hambidge to a 21-10 win. Bloxhams only losing rink was Tony Gardner who lost 9-21 to Mal Leather.
Bloxham lost their local derby against Adderbury 43-78, Bloxhams only winning rink was skipped by Ray Hopkins who with Ray Sopp, Roy Billington and Doug Woodward secured a narrow 13-12 win. There were defeats for Norman Hambidge, 10-13, Alan Miles 10-27 and Jim Lucas 10-26.
Bloxham opened their season with a 63-62 win over Kineton. Tony Gardners rink of Diane Billington and Sue Miles led the way with a convincing30-5 win, well supported by Alan Miles, Hilary Thomas and Bob Ottway who won 14-11, Ray Hopkins rink lost 11-12 and Dave Morse's lost 8-25.
League Cup; Headington A
Bloxham's chances in the Oxford League Cup were shortlived suffering a heavt defeat against a stron Headington A side.
Banbury Chestnuts, Ladies
Bloxham Ladies were defeated 37-35 in their opening fixture with Banbury Chestnuts. Bloxhams only winning trio was Anne Kearvell, Linda Young and Myra Peters who won 14-8.
In their regular friendly against Banbury Borough, Bloxham won 81-75 on points and drew 2-2 on rinks. Jim Lucas with Des Jones, Doug Woodward and Simon Hambidge had a solid win 26-11 but Dave Morse with John Price, Jim Thorne and Norman Hambidge lost 20-24. Ron Higgins with Chris Field, Rob Kearvell and John Stephens won 22-19 but Alan Miles with Ray Sopp, Roy Billington and Bob Ottway lost 13-21.
WOMTL, Witney Town Aces
In their penultimate WOMTL match against Witney Town Aces, Bloxham whilst winning on 2 rinks and drawing on one lost a close game by 63-65, the first loss in the league. John Stephens rink with John Price and Sue Miles lost15-20, but Norman Hambidge with Chris Field and Anne Kearvell won 15-13 with 4 on the last end. Ray Hopkins with Hilary Thomas and Roy Billington won 16-15 with 2 on the last end, and Alan Miles with Anna Undasan and Rob Kearvell drew 17-17. This result still left Bloxham top of the league but the final positions depend on Witney Aces final games.
In their friendly against Banbury Central Bloxham were soundly beaten 54-98, losing on all 4 rinks. Ray Hopkins rink lost 12-27, Alan Miles despite picking up 7 on one end lost 17-25, Norman Hambidge lost 12-23 and John Stephens rink lost 13-23.
WOMTL, Chipping Norton
Bloxham played Chipping Norton in the West Oxford Mixed league and drew 2 all on rinks but won on points 75-60. Dave Morse with Linda Young and Roy Billington had a convincing win 24-4 whilst John Stephens with Brian Smith and Sue Miles came back to win 22-18 helped by a 5 on the penultimate end. Tony Gardner with Hilary Thomas and Ray Hopkins lost a close game 19-22, whilst Alan Miles with Chris Field and Norma Gardner trailed throughout and lost 10-16.
League, West Oxford
In their last league game of the season Bloxham had a good win at West Oxford, winning on 3 rinks with the fourth drawn and by 76 to 48. Tony Gardner’s rink with Brian Smith, John Nolan and Roy Billington led throughout winning 20-11, as did Dave Morse’s rink with John Price, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge who won 22-8. Ray Hopkin’s rink with Des Jones, Chris Field and Ron Higgins won 16-11 and Alan Miles’s rink with Chris Hall, Rob Kearvell and John Stephens drew 18-18 after dropping 6 points on the last end.
The club’s friendly away at Woodford-cum-Membris gave them a resounding 103-30 win. Rob Kearvells rink won 29-6, Alan Miles won 20-9, John Stephens won 20-8 and Ray Hopkins had the biggest win 34-7.
In this annual friendly Bloxham won 102-44 in a match that was 2 rinks and 2 triples as Masonic were expecting to play triples, but an enjoyable time was had by all regardless. The rink games were Norman Hambidge with Des Jones, Brian Smith and Hilary Thomas who won 28-10, and Alan Miles with Chris Field, John Nolan and Sue Miles won 26-11. The triple games were John Stephens with Ana Undasan and Chris Hall who won 24-14 and Ron Higgins with Doug Woodward and Linda Young who won 24-9.
Bloxham were playing league leaders Bicester in their last home match and whilst drawing 2 all on rinks lost quite heavily on shots, 55-79. Ron Higgins with Des Jones, Chris Hall and John Stephens never really got into their game losing 9-27. Tony Gardner with Brian Smith, Roy Billington and Ray Hopkins had a much closer game winning 14-13, and Dave Morse with Ray Sopp; Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge led throughout to win 18-13. Alan Miles with Bob Ottway, John Nolan and Rob Kearvell lost 14-26.
As there was no league match this Thursday the club’s jubilee Triples competition was held. There was a good response with 24 players entering with, after a day of bowls, Norman Hambidge ending up as winner.
City & County
Bloxham had this down as a rinks match but C&C arrived with a triples team so we ended up playing rinks on three rinks. Bloxham were soundly beaten on 2 rinks but managed a win on Alan Miles’s rink with Ros Sopp, Chris Field and Norman Hambidge, 21-17. Tony gardner with Chris Hall, Ana Undasan and Sue Miles lost 8-25 and Ray Hopkins with Doug Woodward, Jane Hall and Hilary Thomas lost 12-25, giving an overall score of 41-67.
In their return fixture at Chadlington whilst holding opponents to 2 all on rinks Bloxham lost on points 73-58. Dave Morse with Ray Sopp, Rob Kearvell and Norman Hambidge had a heavy loss at 7-25, and Alan Miles with Bob Ottway, John Nolan and Ron Higgins despite leading for much of the game couldn’t hold on for a win, losing 16-19. Jim Lucas with Chris Field, playing his first league game and John Stephens came through at the end to win 16-15. Tony Gardner with Brian Smith, Roy Billington and Ray Hopkins led throughout to win 19-14
In the West Oxford league Bloxham drew 2 rinks all with Burford but won on points 68-62. Led by Brian Smith with Hilary Thomas and Doug Woodward they won 22-8 and Alan Miles with John Price and Anne Kearvell were the other winning rink 21-15. Ray Hopkins with Ana Undasan and Rob Kearvell lost 14-22 and John Stephens with Chris Field and Sue Miles were the other losing rink, 11-17.
Playing at home in the return fixture Bloxham and OUP drew 2 rinks all but Bloxham won by dint of shots, 77-58. The win was led by captain Tony Gardner with Brian Smith, Ray Billington and Ray Hopkins who led throughout to have a good 32-10 win. Dave Morse with John Price, Bob Ottway and Norman Hambidge were the other winning rink, 19-13. Ron Higgins with Ray Sopp, Des Jones and Rob Kearvell lost 13-20 and in a close match Alan Miles with Chris Hall, John Nolan and John Stephens lost 13-15.
In the West Oxford league Bloxham had a good away win at Woodstock by 3rinks to 1 and by 83-57. Norman Hambidge with Ray Sopp and Hilary Thomas was the losing rink , 11-18 but thenJohn Stephens with Chris Field and Sue Miles led throughout to win 28-12, Ray Hopkins with Ros Sopp and Chris Hall also led throughout and won 25-12 with Alan Miles and Doug Woodwaard and Jane Hall winning 19-15.
In their away match at Woodstock Bloxham won 3-1 and by 64-56.Tony Gardner with Brian Smith, Roy Billington and Ray Hopkins led the way winning 17-8, Alan Miles with Chris Hall, John Nolan and John Stephens won 14-12, and Jim Lucas with Des Jones, Rob Kearvell and Ron Higgins held on after building up a good lead to win 16-15. The losing rink was Dave Morse’s with John Price, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge who despite a late push lost 17-21.
Bloxham’s friendly with Adderbury was played over 3 rinks and lost 3-0 and 45-65.Rob Kearvell with Linda Young, Chris Field and Des Jones got off to a good start but couldn’t hold on and lost 18-20. Alan Miles with Ana Undason, John Nolan amd Chris hall lost 11-28, and Brian Smith with Doug Woodward, John Price and Hilary Thomas in a close game just lost 16-17 on the last end.
Bloxham had a solid win in their friendly match away to Byfield winning 3-1 and 67-37.Roy Billington with Diane Billington, Jane Hall and Doug Woodward led the way winning 22-8. Alan Miles with Ros Sopp, Sue Miles won 16-11, but Rob Kearvell with John Price, Anne Kearvell and Chris Hall lost 5-13. Norman Hambidge with Linda Young, Ray Sopp and Hilary Thomas led throughout to win 24-5.
League, South Oxford
Having conceded the away round due to illnesses and been heavily penalised, in this, the first of the return League fixtures, Bloxham played and beat league leaders South Oxford 3-1 and 75-67, Tony Gardner with Brian Smith, Roy Billington and Ray Hopkins led throughout and just held out on the last end to win 16-15. Alan Miles with Chris Hall, John Nolan and John Stephens despite being behind for much of the match won 19-15. Dave Morse with John Price, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge got a 6 after a couple of ends to put them ahead and stayed ahead to win 22-18. Jim Lucas with Des Jones, John Elstob and Ron Higgins despite being 2-17 down after 9 ends came back to eventually lose by 1 point, 18-19.
Bloxham had an enjoyable friendly match away to Hanborough and won 3-1 and 81-75. Alan Miles with Diane Billington, Ana Undasan and Des Jones after trailing for most of the game won 20-16. Roy Billington with Jane Hall, John Nolan and Sue Miles on a close game won 19-16 whilst Rob Kearvel with Ros Sopp, Chris Hall and Hilary Thomas ledtroughout and won 27-14. The losing rink, at 15-29, was Brian Smith with John Price, Ray Sopp and Anne Kearvell.
League, West Oxford
Bloxham’s last game of the first leg of games gave them a 3-1 win over West Oxford by 73-44. Tony Gardner with Brian Smith, Roy Billington and Ray Hopkins led all the way to win 22-10. Alan Miles with Bob Ottway, John Price and Rob Kearvell also led all the way to win 16-8, Dave Morse with Ray Sopp, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge won 19-9 but Jim Lucas with Des Jones, Chris Hall and Ron Higgins lost a close match, decided on the last end, by 1 point 16-17.
Bloxham played Charlbury at home in the West Oxford league and had a resounding 4-0 and 98-47 points win. Tony Gardner’s rink with Chris Hall and Anne Kearvell led the way winning 26-8. John Stephens with Jane Hall and Rob Kearvell won 25-9 finishing with a flourish with a 3 and a 5. Norma Gardner with Ray Sopp and Roy Billington won 25-16 which included a 6 and an 8. Ray Hopkins with Ros Sopp and Doug Woodward won 22-14 and also had a 6.
Bloxham’s match away to Bicester resulted in a loss 5-1, which was their first loss of the season – apart from the forfeited match against South Oxford due to sickness. The only winning rink was Tony Gardner’s who, apart from the first end, led throughout to win 27-9. Jim Lucas’s rink with Des Jones, John Nolan and John Stephens, who played Kevin Taylors rink, always trailed and lost 8-30. Dave Morse with Ray Sopp, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge lost 12-22, and Ron Higgins with John Elstob, Rob Kearvell and Alan Miles lost 13-18. The score on points was 60-79.
Bloxham played Brackley for the first time in a friendly triples match which ended even at 2 rinks all but Bloxham won on points 69-53. Norman Hambidge with John Elstob and Anne Kearvell who led throughout won 24-9 and Ray Hopkins with Ray Sopp and Linda Young was the other winning rink, 17-11, also leading throughout. John Stephens with John Price and Doug Woodward lost 16-20 and Rob Kearvell with Ana Undasan playing her first match and Des Jones lost 12-13 on the last end.
Moreton in Marsh
In their friendly against Moreton-in-Marsh Bloxham had a convincing 4-0 win and by 98 to 47 points. Tony Gardner’s rink with Brian Smith, Sue Miles and Rob Kearvell led the way winning 20-13, Jim Lucas with John Price, Anne Kearvell and John Stephens won 22-11, Dave Morse with Diane Billington, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge won 27-12, and Alan Miles with Des Jones, Roy Billington and Norma Gardner won 29-11.
In their league match, curtailed to 15 ends by heavy rain, Bloxham beat Chadlington 3-1 and 68-53. Ron Higgins with John Elstob, Bob Ottway and Rob Kearvell won 23-12, Alan Miles with John Price, Des Jones and John Stephens won 15-12, but Tony Gardner with Brian Smith, Roy Billington and Ray Hopkins lost 10-15. Dave Morse with Ray Sopp, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge won 20-14.
WOMTL, Witney Town Blues
Bloxham beat Witney Town Blues in their West Oxfordshire League game 66-53 winning on 3 rinks. Ray Hopkins with Ray Sopp and Anne Kearvell won 21-10, but Alan Miles with John Elstob and Linda Young lost 11-17. Rob Kearvell with Brian Smith and Ros Sopp won 16 10 and John Stephens with Doug Woodward and Sue Miles won 18-16.
Bloxham were away to OUP and 4-0 and 83-47. Jim Lucas with John Elstob, John Nolan and Rob Kearvell led the way leading throughout and winning 29-15. Dave Morse, with Ray Sopp, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge won 21-10, and Alan Miles rink with Bob Ottway, Des Jones and John Stephens won 17-9. Tony Gardner with Brian Smith, Roy Billingham and Ray Hopkins despite never being ahead snatched it on the last end with 5 shots to win 16-13.
League – Woodstock
Bloxhams first home game produced a draw at 2 all on rinks and at 62 points each. Ray Hopkins rink with Bob Ottway, Simon Hambidge and Roy Billington won 18-15 and Dave Morse with John Price, Doug Woodward and Norman Hambidge won 18-17 on the last end. Alan Miles with Ray Sopp, Rob Kearvell and Brian Smith lost 12- 13 and John Stephens rink with John Elstob, Des Jones and Ron Higgins lost 14-17.
