Welcome to Bloxham Bowls Club
The greens are now available on a turn up and play basis as per Alan Miles' e-mail of 2 July. All competition games MUST be noted in the club diary and this will give them priority over other attendees. Wednesday afternoon is still reserved for the WASP sessions
Bloxham Bowls Club is well known and is a friendly and successful club. Set in the north of Oxfordshire it has been a thriving bowls club since 1957. Last year, 2020, as it has been for all bowls club, tested our resilience but at present the club is continuing to thrive having recruited several new members despite the limited playing opportunities.
The game of bowls can be enjoyed by everybody, no matter what age, sex or disability. We are always looking for new members. How many times have people thought about 'just having a go'; please don't worry, come along and sample the game and it's hospitality. Experience is not necessary as we have coaches available who can help if required. A player in their first years can sometimes be as good as someone who has been playing for a number of years.
Newcomers can practice and learn the game themselves at their own pace or take advantage of the clubs own coaches to aid their advancement in the game. Bowls are available to borrow for beginners and provided you have some flat shoes you can start with no expense. When they feel ready they can make themselves available for team selection if they wish to try the competitive element of bowls. We play in men's and mixed league matches and also play many mixed friendly matches in the local area.
The club is currently (2021) in Oxfordshire County League 3, remaining there having been promoted last season. Our ladies have previously joined forces with a Banbury team and competed in the Bowls Oxfordshire Ladies County Top Club Competition. This year we are hoping to field a full ladies team of our own due to the successful enrolment of several new ladies members in prior years.
We also hold club competitions for our members, with trophies for singles, pairs and triples and this year shall be trialling a WASPS session - Wednesday Afternoon Social Practice Session. This is open to all comers to try your hand at bowls, meet some members and see if you like the club and would like to join. Follow the link at the bottom of the page for more details.
Why not, without obligation, come along and have a go and see if you like it. All you need to start is a pair of flat soled shoes or trainers and we will provide the rest. During the season, May to September, club practice sessions are held every Monday evening from 6:30 pm weather permitting. Alternatively if you would like to discuss 'sampling' the game of bowls then contact the club on 07391021097 or via the Contact link on this web site.
Remember this is your website and any comments concerning content or something new you would like to see will be gratefully received. Please contact the club via the Contact link.
This website was originally developed in 2000 by Robert (Bob) Gushlow who joined the club in 1987 and was President in 2004 & 2005. Bob maintained the web site until he passed away in September 2007. It has since evolved with later updates and is now supported and financed by Bob's son Nick and we would like to express our thanks to Nick for that support. This site will remain dedicated to Bob to show our appreciation to both Bob and Nick.
